In February of 2011 the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation hosted a wills seminar for residents of Lac du Bonnet and District. About 28 people came to hear Mr. Bill Bodman from Selkirk discuss the importance of using a will in estate planning. Mr. Gerald Hawranik a lawyer and former MLA discussed the legal ramifications of not having a will.
Horizon Insurance Staff Members Give to Foundation
By Lory Mitton
An initiative by the women working at Horizon Insurance is contributing $431 to the Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation. Last year the group chose as an office to raise money through a weekly happening they call, “Casual Friday”. The decision allowed the women to wear jeans at the office on Fridays so long as they gave $2 to a collection which would be given to charity.
“Sometimes we didn’t wear jeans,” manager Carol Oucharek said stating that the relaxed tradition was just something simple they wanted to do. “The main idea was to give to the community so they can help others.”
Last week Oucharek and the five other women at the office presented the foundation with the money they collected.
Gus Wruck, vice president of the foundation hopes the effort will encourage others in the community to find creative ways to contribute to charitable causes.
“It was a spontaneous initiative that the foundation is very appreciate of,” he told the Leader. “We’re very pleased.”
The Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation is a community of donors working to enhance the quality of life in Lac du Bonnet. The funds raised are pooled and a board of directors supervises the resulting investment portfolio. The income from the portfolio is made available for distribution to support charitable activities in the local community.
In February the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation received a sum of $54,000 from a local fund that was set up many years ago to assist a local resident. The money was not needed for this resident and it was with the accumulated interest given equally to two community groups in Lac du Bonnet. The Foundation was selected to receive one portion of this money. This amount of money represents one of the larger single donations received to date to the Foundation. Thank You!
