History of the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation

A brief history of the Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation.

The original inspiration for the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation came from a long-time resident, Dr. Bob Rutherford. Unfortunately, Dr. Rutherford passed away before the Foundation became a reality.

In 2008 with seed money from the Town and RM of Lac du Bonnet, a number of community-minded people including Gus Wruck, Cliff Zarecki and Dr. Rutherford’s son Mauri came together and the Foundation became a reality. These three, along with Bob Draward, Gord Emberley, Daryll Hyslop, Brett Mitchell, Bill Russell and Donna Tschetter formed the original Board of Directors for the Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation.

The LDB Foundation was legally incorporated and received charitable status from Canada Revenue Agency in 2008.

The Story Behind the Lac du Bonnet Foundation’s Logo

In 2015, the Lac du Bonnet Foundation Board members were seeking a new logo that better represented our community and the work that the Foundation does in it. The board wanted a simple recognizable design and approached local artist, Sheldon Sveinson, to create one.

In the early 1900’s, Lac du Bonnet and its neighbouring communities were largely involved in the brick manufacturing industry. Looking back in history, Sheldon created a logo based on the specific type and colour of brick that was manufactured only at the Lac du Bonnet plant. The stylized brick on the new logo was designed to acknowledge that piece of local history and represent the solid foundation upon which the Lac du Bonnet Foundation supports our community.
