The Grant Application for Lac du Bonnet & District Foundation is to be used. Please insure that the application is completed as indicated on the application.
Note: The following general information will also apply to the Lac du Bonnet & District Foundation.
Who Should Apply?
Applications are only accepted from qualified donees or organizations holding a Charitable Registration Number from Canada Customs & Revenue Agency effective before applying for the grant. The number has the following format: BN/Registration Number:823854559RR0001- This is the number of the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation. It is the number you receive when you achieve charitable status and which allows you to write official tax receipts. If the number on your tax receipts is not in this format, look for the correct number at Canada Revenue Agency website and search the list of Canadian Registered Charities.
When to Apply?
- Application: Applications must be made on an Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation application form. All required information must accompany the application form in order for the application to be considered. Grant applications are called for twice annually March 31 and September 30.
- Review: The application will be reviewed by a Granting Committee of the Board. A recommendation to grant or deny is made to the Board for approval. Grant application will be reviewed and selected based primarily on qualifying factors.
- Awards procedure and recording system: Grants will be awarded to successful applications. Some type of appropriate public announcement will accompany a grant to increase awareness of and to promote the work of the Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation. Grants awarded will be recorded in the minutes. Normally, grants will be finalized two to three months after the proposal deadlines. Your agency will be notified as to its status at that time.
- Grant monitoring: All grants are subject to review by the Board. Proof of expenditures must be submitted within one year of the date of grant approval, in order for grant funds to be disbursed. If funds have not been requested in the one year period, the grant is null and void. The Board will review projects granted in the previous year after the one year period has elapsed to ensure that the guideline requirements have been met.
Guidelines to Qualify for a Grant
Only charities registered with CCRA are eligible for grants from The Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation. Your charitable registration number is a nine-digit number followed by RR0001. If a second party organization is providing access to a charitable number, a letter documenting permission for this usage must be provided by the applicant. This letter must accompany the application form. There must be an affiliation between the registrant and the applicant if a second party charitable number is utilized.
The applicant must carry out its activities in The Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation geographic granting area. This area is to include the Town of Lac du Bonnet, the RM of Lac du Bonnet, and the adjacent area of the RM of Alexander.
The applicant must make services and access available without discrimination because of race, colour, religion, sex, age, marital status or handicap.
Applications will be considered for capital projects, project start-ups, new organization start-ups or human resource development.
The availability of other sources of funding/granting/fundraising must be in place. The Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation will not fund 100% of any particular project.
The Lac du Bonnet & District Charitable Foundation may choose to initiate a response to a need in the Community by seeking out leaders or acting in a leadership role.
Preference is given to projects which:
- benefit the whole community
- encourage more efficient use of community resources
- demonstrate new approaches and techniques in the solution of community problems
- address the underlying causes of problems in our society
- promote efficient and co-ordinated use of community resources, both human and financial
- promote volunteer participation
Grants are not made to or for:
- individuals
- annual fund drives
- pay down mortgages or reduce deficits
- support operating expenses
- projects already completed
- political activities
- direct religious activities of religious groups or organization
except when community access is available, unless the community-at-large will benefit significantly.
What Do We Fund?
The Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation awards grants for charitable activities in the arts, education, social services, the environment, health, culture and recreation, or any project that will maintain or improve the quality of life for the people of the Town and RM of Lac du Bonnet and the adjacent area of the RM of Alexander. Of particular interest are initiatives which will strengthen an organization’s management capability and promote collaboration and sharing among agencies.
In assessing requests, the Foundation looks at organizations that show fiscal responsibility, have a committed volunteer board, represent the community they service and have the capacity to carry out the work. Applicants must demonstrate how their initiative will benefit the community and how the project will be funded beyond the grant from the Foundation.
Requests for multiple year funding, up to three years, will be considered to develop or implement strategic initiatives. The Foundation does not provide ongoing funding.
What Don’t We Fund?
Grants will not be available for partisan political purposes or direct religious activities. Grants will not normally be given for deficit funding, annual funding drives, travel and conferences, endowment grants, retroactive funding, large capital campaigns, or for any related expenses incurred prior to the Foundation’s decision date.
Final Reporting and Recognition
Prior to the issue of a grant a formal Grant Agreement will be signed by each successful applicant.
There is an expectation that successful applicants will provide appropriate public recognition to the Foundation.
Successful applicants are expected to provide a representative to attend the grants award ceremony in person.
A Final Report is required from all successful applicants no later than the date specified on the Grant Agreement. Late or incomplete final reports can affect future grants.
