$1,000,000 Milestone – Pork Giveaway

LDB Foundation Reaches $1 Million Mark

(Rick McGregor, Lac du Bonnet Clipper, Vol. 33, No.38, Sept 26, 2024) This summer, the Lac du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation achieved a very significant milestone.

The LdB Foundation has surpassed $1 million dollars in endowed funds. Begun in 2008, the LdB Foundation reached the $500,000 mark in their first 10 years. Just six years later, they have doubled that figure. The earnings from these funds are used to support local charities through grants, scholarships, and bursaries.

“Reaching $1 million represents a very substantial milestone for a small community foundation like ours to have raised,” said board chair David Johson. “At the same time, we have awarded funds in excess of $186,000 to local, deserving groups. As well, another $70,000 received from third parties as a result of our membership in Community Foundations of Canada and Endow Manitoba have also been given out.”

To celebrate this achievement and thank the many generous donors and recognize the valuable community support, a free pork-on-a-bun barbecue event was held at the Lac du Bonnet Farmers’ Market. Over 350 delicious buns and drinks were handed out and $214 in cash donations were received. The leftover pork was donated to the local Lunch on Us Program who were happy to have the meat for their soup kitchen.

The LdB Foundation’s goal is to build significant capital, the earnings from which are used to provide funds to groups and organizations that are working to improve the quality of life in our community.
